First Stop - West Side Market
Today was so fun! We started off at the West Side Market, located on West 25th street near the downtown area. Since it wasn't during the weekend, it wasn't as crowded as usual, but it was still lively and full of options! We both have traveled out of the country and visited the markets there, such as Zanzibar or Cambodia, and we both were able to see how clean and organized our market really was. We asked some people from the older generation how long they've been coming here, and we found out that it was very popular when they were younger because immigrants were able to find more ethnic food here. Walking around, we saw things we would never have thought would sell, such as baby cow liver, cow tongue, a variety of legs, and these things...which are apparently good for dipping in soup...yummm |
Here are some pictures we took of the market |
A picture of us! |
We took a picture of the roof because it's incredible to think how old it is! We found the architecture beautiful. |
Chocolate covered ore's and marshmallows! |
We headed into Tremont, an area we both were unfamiliar with. When driving around, we noticed such a variety of restaurants that all looked so good!

Here is a bar called the tree house, where they incorporate real tree trunks into the furniture! |
Some houses in the area. |
Some of the more modern, newer developments in Tremont! |
We then decided to stop for lunch at the Sokoloinski's University Inn! It's near downtown so a lot of business people might stop here for lunch as well!
It looked like a house, but it's really big inside! It's family owned and very welcoming inside. It's cafeteria styled, and once you have your food you can eat in any room you want downstairs. We both got perigies, mashed potatoes, and a vegetable. It was really good! When we finished that, we went back to Tremont to get dessert from A Cookie and a Cupcake
Third Stop - Ohio City
Lastly, we had to check out the haunted house in Ohio City! The Franklin Castle is known for being haunted, and even though they have stopped giving tours, we still wanted to check it out.
Creepy, right? |
We went home and googled more information about the Franklin Castle, and it really seemed haunted. There were multiple stories of cameras that captured paranormal activity, residents who would hear a baby crying from the other room, and during a renovation they found a collection of babies skeletons in the Castle! If you are one of those people who are interested by the paranormal, we have one of the most haunted houses in Ohio located right near the downtown area.
Overall
This is was such an eventful day! The West Side Market is something everyone should check out at least once! The food is great, and all the people helping us were so friendly. Tremont is also a area that is especially great for young people to live in, or people who have an interest in art. The restaurants down there can be good for anyone 21 and up, they all seemed lively, unique, and very fun. The Franklin Castle was a little more of a tourist attraction, but it is something that makes Cleveland stand out!
This day was much more exciting than the flats, and we hope to come back and visit during the summer!
